On show at ASSIGNMENTS 2023 – There are an estimated 6 million drug addicts in Afghanistan, a problem that is only becoming worse since the Taliban have again taken control. Some the estimated 1000 drug addicts at the Pul-e-Sukhta bridge, Kabul. Almost all the addicts under the bridge said they were addicted to either heroin or meth. Each had a different story to tell. Many said they had become addicted while migrant workers in neighbouring Iran. ©Simon Townsley

Over the next couple of weeks you can view a curated showcase of photographs taken by members of The British Press Photographers’ Association on the walls at The Bargehouse, near the OXO Tower in South Bank, London.

‘The ‘Assignments 2023′ exhibition is a showcase of 100 photographs from members of The BPPA, celebrating the best of press photography. This year’s exhibition covers stories from July 2021 through to the spring of 2023 and will feature everything from sports and entertainment through to politics and protest with royals, celebrities, and global events as seen through the eyes of the association’s photographers.’

The exhibitions curators were photojournalist Phil Coburn, United Kingdom and Ireland photo manager for Agence France-Presse Talar Kalajian, The Telegraph picture editor Matthew Fearn, photojournalist Alan Crowhurst, and Hello Magazine creative director Freddie Sloan.

Thanks to the support of Canon UK and Fixation, Assignments 2023 is:
FREE to attend.
• Open from 11am to 6pm daily between 19th and 28th May 2023.
• Covers 5 floors of The Bargehouse on London’s Southbank, part of Oxo Tower Wharf, SE1 9PH
• Once again the BPPA bookshop will return during the exhibition.

From 22-26 May, Canon have a stand within the exhibition where you can come and chat with our Guru’s who will be on hand to show our latest cameras and lenses and offer their support. With products ranging from EOS R3, R6 II and a range of RF lenses, we’ll also have the EOS-1D X Mark III and vlogging cameras to suit a variety of users.
