People: Michael Gottschalk is now Head of Content at Picture Alliance

Congratulations to Michael Gottschalk this week on his appointment as new Head of Content at the dpa subsidiary picture alliance.

The 39-year-old photo journalist and picture editor is responsible for the analysis, further development and implementation of the Frankfurt agency’s content strategy. Michaels experience as a photographer will be important to this role having been a working photographer he will understand the needs and limits photographers face in the field.

• After completing his traineeship as a picture editor at the Soester Anzeiger daily newspaper, Michael Gottschalk studied photo and communication design in Dortmund. He started his career as a photo correspondent at the ddp news agency in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2008 he moved to Berlin for ddp and in 2011 took over the management of the ddp / dapd photography office in Berlin. In 2013 he worked as a freelance photo editor for FAZ publishing and permanently employed until 2018 as a photographer and video journalist for the agency photothek, where he, among other things, worked as an official photographer for various federal ministries and documented delegation trips by the foreign minister and other cabinet members. Before moving to the picture alliance, Michael Gottschalk worked as a picture editor for the title editorial team of the daily newspapers of the Funke media group in North Rhine-Westphalia.
