Independent high-performance, functional outdoor clothing brand KÜHL just released a cracking short documentary film featuring Paige Vincent, a storm chaser with a knack for art, who has made it her mission to photograph extreme weather.

Paige was featured in the first episode of The Road Less Traveled, a series created by KÜHL, that aims to give a glimpse into the lives of those who ‘value their independence and embrace the challenges that come with it.’

Born in Dallas, Texas, Paige initially pursued graphic design but found a passion for photography during her travels in her mid-twenties. Starting as a passenger with friends, she now chases storms all summer long in Arizona. Notable moments in her career include witnessing multiple tornadoes in a single day and capturing a stunning mothership over the Badlands. In 2022, she was awarded Picture of the Year, in the Storm Photo of the Year Contest.

“My goal when chasing is to capture something unique. I truly enjoy combining the art of chasing and photography because those are two things I’m most passionate about” says Paige. “My favorite part about the chase is that every storm is different, and it’ll never happen in the same way again, so these photos are completely unique moments in time”. One of Paige’s signature elements is her red dress. ‘Whenever I do have time, I’ll try to do a Red Dress shot,’ (top photo above) she shares. ‘It’s sort of what I am known for with my photography. The purpose of it when I am chasing is more artistic, and the red dress acts as a juxtaposition of something beautiful in front of something destructive.’

KÜHL package arrives at the PAN offices

KÜHL kindly sent PAN a couple of gear samples to try – in the PAN post was the hat and a jacket from their Rain Jackets range, both worn in the film. Timing was great with the recent April showers here in the UK – thanks!
For pro photographers looking for weatherproof light weight clothing this kit is just the job, and the stretch material allows for movement when you are leaning for that important angle shot.
