Yousuf Karsh website updated

Last updated in 2017 – see the PAN report – with all 15,000+ of Karsh’s sitting records into a searchable database the Karsh website has just been updated again.

The collection sent PAN this on the updates: ‘Organizing the new site by “The Man” (all about Karsh, his life and legacy) and “The Work”, we created a News section that we update almost daily, added 400 or so portraits to browse (by date or by name), and expanded on Mr. Karsh’s legacy.’

‘Over half a million new users (and tens of thousands of views of Winston Churchill) later, we have just launched our third incarnation. Changing News to News and Stories gives us a bit more leeway for adding content and telling more of the stories that are always coming our way, from fellow photographers to family members whose relatives were photographed and who share their portraits with us, and we have moved these regularly updated pages to a more prominent place on the site. We use Instagram to proactively reach people who may or may not have heard of Karsh, and we partner with institutions that have Karsh in their collections, for example, Monday 14th January was Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the US and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery posted our MLK portrait to Instagram, leading to a bump in traffic to our website. It’s incredible to see how many people are interested and how long they spend on the site and it is a beautiful way to honor his life and work and keep it in the public eye.’
