Imperial War Museums

Imperial War Museums (IWM) is a British national museum founded in 1917 to record the story of the Great War and later expanded to include all military operations in which British or Commonwealth forces have been involved, from the First World War to contemporary conflicts.

IWM’s collections are an invaluable multi-media resource including photographs, film, art, documents, sound, and 3D objects that reveal the causes, course, and consequences of war. IWM is the official repository of the film and photographs shot by the Army Film and Photographic Unit and has a delegated authority to administer and license the re-use of Crown Copyright material. Other notable collections exclusive to IWM for licensing include the Tim Hetherington photo archive and NATO film collection.

Register on IWM Film, our dedicated film website, to download screeners and order HD clips.

The Image & Film Licensing team includes experienced curators with knowledge of our archive offline. Our ongoing digitisation programme means there is always something new to discover.
